How can the EU ensure implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 16.2 to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence and torture against children? Every five minutes a child dies as a result of violence. An estimated 150 million girls and 73 million boys are subjected to sexual violence in each year and almost 1 billion children experience physical punishment. The economic impact of violence against children can be as high as US$7 trillion, 8 % of the world’s GDP. Unlike the Millennium Development Goals, the SDGs have set ambitious and universal targets to end violence against children by 2030. This session will debate how the EU and its Member States can implement SDG Target 16.2. The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, which will bring together stakeholders from across the world to end all forms of violence against children, will be presented.
The lab debate will be held on the 16th of June, 14.45 – 16.00. For more information, visit the EDD website.
