This briefing looks at what global leaders, donor countries and states must do to stay committed to recognising children’s right to free, good-quality primary education. With only five years to go until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), there are many achievements to celebrate, but much remains to be done. The international community must not slow down in its efforts – the September 2010 MDG summit is a crucial moment for states to recommit to making the MDGs a reality for all. This briefing focuses on MDG2 – to achieve universal primary education – and its target: to ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. Developing young minds can help lift countries out of poverty and contribute to a better future for all.
