This learning manual was developed under the SHIELD (Safe from Harm on the Internet through Empowerment, Learning, and Dialogue) Project to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity of youth peer leaders in promoting online safety and child protection. The manual provides practical guidance on children’s rights, digital citizenship, and recognizing various forms of online risks, including cyberbullying, online harassment, online scams, misinformation, malware, account attacks, gaming-related risks, and online child sexual exploitation. It also equips youth leaders with essential life skills such as peer counseling, communication, active listening, decision-making, emotional management, public speaking, and safe reporting and referral mechanisms. Through participatory learning activities, case studies, and interactive exercises, the manual empowers young people to become peer educators, support their friends, promote safe online behaviors, and contribute to creating safe digital environments with schools and communities. The resource emphasizes child participation, safeguarding, respect for diversity, and collaborative approaches to preventing online harm while strengthening youth engagement in digital safety advocacy.
