Ahead of the Justice and Home Affairs Council, 9-10 December 2021, a joint statement supported by 22 organisations and prepared by Save the Children, Child Circle and Safe Passage calls for a renewed focus on EU responsibility sharing frameworks. Human rights groups argue that existing family reunion procedures and the expansion of voluntary relocation should be used more extensively to protect children and families on the move at the onset of winter, to improve migration management and ease tensions at various borders.
