In the aftermath of the escalation of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Poland has witnessed an influx of over a million refugees, including children, necessitating large-scale humanitarian efforts. As the conflict persists, many refugees are choosing to remain in Poland, leading to evolving needs focused on long-term integration and reducing dependency on aid. Poland’s labor market, characterized by low unemployment and a growing demand for specialized skills, presents opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and Polish nationals alike. However, employment prospects for refugees and immigrants are often hindered by barriers such as language proficiency, lack of accreditation, and limited work experience. Additionally, gender dynamics and caregiving responsibilities further complicate access to employment, especially for women and persons with disabilities. Entrepreneurship offers a potential pathway for economic integration, though challenges such as inadequate knowledge of regulations and limited access to financial services remain significant. Addressing these issues is crucial to enabling refugees and immigrants to thrive in Poland’s dynamic labor market while contributing to the local economy.
