Investment for Education in Emergencies: A review of evidence

This study, through a rigorous review of literature and analysis of selected case studies, provides a snapshot of what is known – and often not known – about investment for education in emergencies. Among its findings, the study shows that communities and children prioritise education over a number of other issues in contexts of emergency. However, it is unknown the true extent to which emergencies disrupt education and more research is needed. The longer term economic and human capital costs of emergencies on vacation are also largely unknown.

The work was commissioned by Save the Children and was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and advisers with expertise in education, economics, and political economy from the Overseas Development Institute (ODI).
