Save the Children has conducted a survey on the internet to find out how young people experience the separation or divorce of their parents, the consequences of the divorce on children/teenagers as well as adults, and their need for support. 1,326 teenagers, (923 girls and 403 boys) have answered the survey. In Sweden each year there are approximately 50, 000 children who will experience the effects of separation and divorce of their parents. Nearly 30% of all seventeen-year olds in the country have divorced parents, and very often they have no one they can talk to. Parents, extended family members and competent authorities have a joint responsibility in providing the appropriate assistance to these children.
