The global food crisis is expected to push the number of undernourished people in the world to more than one billion in 2009. This particular report engages in an analysis of the impact of the escalation of food prices on household income and children’s nutrition in a rural community in northern Bangladesh. Using data collected both before and at the peak of the crisis, the report describes changes in household income and children’s nutrition, and also assesses how much government and other organisations might have mitigated the impact of the crisis on families. This briefing will be of interest to governments, donors and NGOs seeking to understand and tackle the global food crisis.
