How does the law protect children during armed conflict provides clear and practical answers for people who want to better understand how international law protects children specifically, during armed conflict. Children are among the most ‘at risk’ members of any community affected by armed conflict. The behaviors of parties to an armed conflict, and the conduct of hostilities in general, can threaten children’s safety and well-being. Children are often specifically targeted during armed conflict and face unique dangers. International law imposes general constraints on the conduct of hostilities for the protection of civilians. It also provides special protection for children, acting as deterrent and to discourage violations targeted against children.
