Global Education Cluster
2015 marked the first year of Education Cluster’s new strategic plan. Furthermore, it was also the year with the most forced displacements since the Second World War, with the devastation resulting from the earthquake in Nepal and the deteriorating conditions following El Niño in countries such as Ethiopia.
This report seeks to how the work of the Global Education Cluster and its new strategic direction have been particularly significant in achieving results despite the challenging environment faced by humanitarian agencies in 2015. We do this because we believe that the strategic plan made a difference and that the choices and investments made in this first year of implementation are already bearing fruit. We also wish to highlight that these results were achieved even though education continued to be deprioritised5 and under-funded in many emergency contexts, with protracted crises countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq amongst those worst affected.
