This document presents the findings of a mixed-methods study aimed at assessing the prevalence and effectiveness of climate literacy across formal, non-formal, and informal education sectors in Mozambique. Through extensive document analysis and over 25 interviews with stakeholders, the study maps key actors, evaluates national policies, and analyzes the integration of climate change education across the education system. Despite Mozambique’s robust environmental frameworks and international commitments, the report identifies critical gaps in the education sector, particularly the absence of climate literacy objectives in the Education Strategic Plan (PEE 2020–2029) and limited teacher training. Non-formal initiatives are more dynamic but remain disconnected from formal education systems. The report provides technical recommendations for improving coordination, curriculum integration, teacher capacity building, and monitoring systems to enhance climate literacy. Save the Children is strategically positioned to advocate for and support systemic improvements in climate education through cross-sectoral collaboration and community-based approaches.
