While the world is looking the other way, the lives and futures of more than 3 million displaced children are at risk in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Whole communities have been forced to flee due to a succession of brutal attacks in the east of the country. Both adults and children have lost their lives and health centres and schools have been ransacked.
There are currently 5.2 million displaced people in the DRC and 50 per cent of these have been displaced within the last 12 months. The people living in displacement are often lacking safe water, health care and other basic services. 8 million people in the most violence-afflicted provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu and Tanganyika are acutely food insecure.
