Gender-disaggregated data on children’s first two decades in life enables us to assess whether we are achieving equal outcomes for boys and girls. This data is crucial in highlighting progress, but also for identifying gaps and areas where increased efforts are needed. The data revolution has reshaped our way of collecting and analyzing information, and we must, therefore, discuss ways to increase the effectiveness of the collection and integration of gender data on children and their rights.
This brief describes the principles of UNICEF’s approach to gender data and statistics. Furthermore, it presents recommendations on the next steps to improve gender data for children.
