Save the Children Bangladesh
This evaluation assesses the 26-month BMZ-funded project “Strengthening the Resilience of Host Communities in Cox’s Bazar through Enhanced Health, Livelihood, and Child Protection Services”, implemented by Save the Children Bangladesh in Teknaf and Ukhiya in partnership with BITA, CNRS, and PHD. The project aimed to strengthen social cohesion between host and Rohingya refugee communities by addressing shared vulnerabilities across health, food security and livelihoods, child protection, and partner capacity-building. Using a mixed-methods approach guided by OECD-DAC evaluation criteria, the study draws on quantitative surveys with 1,164 respondents, staff surveys, and extensive qualitative tools. Findings indicate significant improvements in skilled birth attendance, healthcare utilization, household income, child protection awareness, and organizational capacity of partner NGOs, with most targets achieved or exceeded. The project contributed to improved well-being, economic resilience, and community engagement. However, challenges related to infrastructure, cultural norms, market access, and sustainability persist, underscoring the need for stronger integration, follow-up support, and inclusive approaches for long-term impact.
