Save the Children
Nepal’s progress in reducing malnutrition has not been inclusive and many disadvantaged groups lag behind. The most disadvantaged groups include women, Dalits, indigenous communities, linguistic and religious minorities, people with disabilities, people in remote areas, impoverished people, and those living with HIV/AIDS.
Malnutrition is closely correlated to poverty in Nepal, according to data from the 2011 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, children in the poorest households are twice as likely to stunted compared to children from the wealthiest households. Another factor related to malnutrition is social exclusion: children from certain caste, ethnic, or religious groups experience greater food insecurity.
Save the Children, under the guidance of the Government of Nepal, leads seven partners through the Suaahara programme. The five-year programme aims to reduce stunting nationally through activities in the 41 most vulnerable districts in Nepal.
