Despite some progress, seven million children are chronically undernourished in Bangladesh. However, improvements have not been spread evenly across the country. Factors associated with malnutrition in children include living in slums, living in rural areas, socioeconomic status of mothers, and premature pregnancies.
Save the Children has been combatting malnutrition in Bangladesh through the SHIREE (Stimulating Household Improvements Resulting in Economic Empowerment) programme, which aimed to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in beneficiary households in Khulna and Bagerhat Districts.
