Teachers are one of the most influential and powerful forces for equity, access and quality in education and key to sustainable global development. Evidence clearly demonstrates that teachers and teacher quality is the most important school-based factor influencing achievement. In refugee and emergency settings in particular, teacher quality is recognised as a primary driver of variations in student learning outcomes. Thus teachers and teacher quality are at the heart of the solution to address the global learning crisis.

The ‘Enabling Teachers Common Approach’ seeks to ensure that teachers have the enabling environment and competencies required to improve learning outcomes for girls and boys, especially the most marginalised. We recognize that to improve teacher quality we must ensure the provision of high quality, continuous, practice driven, school-based professional development for teachers, while also addressing issues of teacher motivation and wellbeing.

As of 2025, the English version has an updated section on Fidelity of Implementation, and clarifies which indicators are aligned with Save the Children’s Global Indicators. We aim to updated other translated versions soon.
