In 2024, Save the Children conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with 89 school-going children affected by the devastating Cyclone Freddy. These FGDs captured children’s perspectives on the cyclone’s impact on their lives and rights, as well as their insights on preparing for and responding to future climate-related disasters.
This report presents children’s voices on these issues and examines the implications within the context of Sierra Leone’s climate vulnerability, capacity to act on and invest in climate resilience, and the prioritisation of children in climate policies and funding. Furthermore, it offers recommendations to ensure that climate action and funding effectively address the unique needs of children on the frontlines of the climate crisis in Malawi.
