A concept paper presented by Save the Children Sweden, entitled: “Emergencies and the psychosocial care and protection of affected children”, covering the topic of children’s right to psychosocial support in emergency settings. Exposure to acute emergency situations can have a devastating impact on the psychological and social wellbeing of children, adolescents and adults. Psychosocial care and support in emergencies is an integral component in the rehabilitation of communities and in restoring children’s normal and healthy development. Psychosocial programmes help children cope with stress and build the capacity of families and communities to support children’s psychosocial well-being. These initiatives also increase the capacity of local organisations to meet the needs of children and help create sustainable programmes to promote their well-being.
