Save the Children
From 2015 to 2018, ESD as an Asia-Pacific regional strategy has sought to reduce preventable deaths and injuries due to disasters, and ensure children can have safe and continued access to a quality education. We aim to strengthen and prepare systems and communities to reach our 0/0 goal: zero children killed or injured at school during a disaster, and zero days of school lost due to disaster.
In the last three years, we’ve brought together development and humanitarian imperatives to prioritise universal access to education by increasing the resilience of children, communities, and systems. Going forward, resilience, together with disability and gender, have been identified as fundamental priorities to be integrated across all Save the Children work. Resilience builds on the progress of ESD by continuing to work before, during, and after crises to ensure uninterrupted education as well as health and protection. ESD will continue to be an important component of the global resilience approach. In 2019, ESD will be aligned with the global Safe Schools Common Approach, widening our scope to include conflict situations and preventing violence in schools.
