The Ebola epidemic in West Africa represents an unprecedented global public health crisis. Since the first case in a remote area of Guinea in late 2013, the virus spread through Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea at an alarming rate.
This publication reviews the challenges for 2015 in facing the effects of the Ebola outbreak in the long term. The outbreak has stressed sometimes already fragile infrastructures in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Health systems are under severe stress and risk collapsing. Save the Children is working in each of the affected countries to address the hidden impact the outbreak has had on children, especially access to quality education.
