Over 42 million people across the world were forced to flee due to disasters triggered by sudden-onset natural hazards in 2010, according to this study by IDMC. In 2009, 17 million people were displaced by such disasters, and 36 million in 2008. It is hoped that the findings of this latest report will contribute to convincing all governments and other relevant actors of the importance of acting quickly and decisively to respond to disaster-induced displacement
