The Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction ranks Mozambique as the 3rd among African countries most exposed to risks from weather-related hazards. Extreme climate events such as drought, flooding, tropical cyclones and forest fires, have a dramatic impact on the lives of children and women, leading to increased hunger and malnutrition. In Mozambique, Save the Children’s work focuses on strengthening food security; fighting child malnutrition and improving health; improving children’s access to high-quality early childhood development and basic education; promoting child protection; and expanding HIV/AIDS programmes to help stem the epidemic and minimize the impact of emergencies and HIV/AIDS on children.
