In 2012, a meeting was convened by the World Health Organisation with the aim to achieve a consensus on core indicators for global measurement and reporting on the quality of care provided for mothers, newborns, and children in health facilities that could be used ruing the final years of work on meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The meeting included over 70 participants: regional and country experts, representatives of professional organizations and nongovernmental organizations, and bilateral and multilateral agencies.
The outcome is a descriptive list of 13 core indicators to measure the quality of healthcare for mothers, newborns, and children.
