Pneumonia deaths can be reduced by timely care-seeking, however, the success of this is largely determined by caregivers and community norms of health. This study aims to understand the contexts that drive pediatric service uptake in Nigeria by exploring caregiver and community perceptions and experiences of care-seeking.
It finds that there is a need for community-based approaches to improve caregiver knowledge and care-seeking for children under five. Awareness needs to be raised on pneumonia symptoms, risk factors, family dynamics, and community responsibility in health care delivery and seeking.
