A jointly published study by Save the Children and the Public Interest Foundation (PIF), which documents the impact of community participation in improving access and quality of elementary education, protecting children at risk of exploitation and abuse, and in improving child health and nutrition. The significance of the study lies in promoting the cause of neglected and underprivileged children in India by facilitating the replication of successful models without wasting scarce resources in experimentation, and by encouraging the efforts of civil society and the Government. The benefit of the study lies in identifying major processes of community participation in the selected good practices for bringing about a positive change in the lives of this vulnerable section of society. It is hoped that this document will be a useful guide towards implementation of rights based interventions for children in education, child protection, and child survival based on community participation.
