In Rwanda a partnership between Save the Children and Uwezo Youth Empowerment, a local organization specializing in inclusion, has enabled Uwezo to double the efforts of youth volunteers with disabilities who have been making tremendous achievements in promoting education of children with disabilities and as well creating a safe and barrier free society for children and youth with disabilities. Uwezo and Save the Children have developed this guide to enable youth with disability volunteers to organize and facilitate workshops of parents/caregivers of children with disabilities to give them practical knowledge and guided steps to support their children learn and, in particular, to practice reading and writing at home and within their community Uwezo’s youth volunteers with disabilities will serve as positive role models in the community as they lead efforts to promote literacy in homes and the wider community.
