Children living with and affected by HIV in residential care. Desk-based research

The phenomenon of residential care has been growing in recent years, and HIV is one of the factors considered to be a cause. To find out more about the scope of this problem, EveryChild and Maestral International have been commissioned by UNICEF to help improve the evidence base on the links between HIV and the institutionalisation of children. This desk study represents the first step in this process. It includes an analysis of a global survey on the links between HIV and the residential care of children and a broad review of the available literature and documentation on the issue.
