Save the Children East and Southern Africa

Debates around the participation of children in electoral processes has been raging for a long time. As a result, there is a superfluity of literature attempting to address this issue. What is missing however from this literature is an African normative perspective to the debate. This advocacy brief therefore seeks to provide a synoptic analysis of the participation of children in electoral processes from an African normative guidance point of view and suggested indicators that can be paid attention to in African electoral processes in 2024.

This brief includes:

  • List of elections in Africa in 2024
  • Considerations for the involvement of children in democratic processes
  • Possible advocacy products to leverage
  • Checklist for election observation
