While armed conflicts and crises affect people of all ages, children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of war. In 2018, almost two-thirds of the world’s children were living in a country impacted by armed conflict. 415 million of these children were living less than 50 km from where the violence took place. Despite improved population data, there is still a lack of systematic and high-quality knowledge on the different impacts of armed conflict on children.

This policy brief presents key findings from the yearly update of a mapping exercise of children living in conflict areas. It also identifies concrete measures that must be taken to protect children impacted by conflict.
