Save the Children Philippines
In the continuing efforts for recovery and rehabilitation following Typhoon Haiyan, SC Philippines has observed that children were hardly consulted and their concerns were rarely taken into consideration. While local civil society organizations (CSOs) play a critical role in building resiliency and capacity among communities and in delivering humanitarian services and development programs in the areas affected by Haiyan, much could have been improved in terms of their meaningful involvement in planning processes and prioritization of children’s needs and concerns in recovery and rehabilitation programs. With the support from the Save the Children Sweden’s Children in Emergency Fund (SEF), Project CHARGE was conceived in the hope of contributing to bridging these gaps.
Following its implementation period this end line evaluation found that the project had the following impacts:
Widening of CSOs’ participation in the work related to child rights and DRR as well as the expansion of their respective organizations’ focus (from sectoral- fisherfolks, farmers, etc.) in their programs/approach and services, Development and strengthening of the CSO networks and its members through the trainings provided which were helpful in building their capacity in the aspects of advocacy, DRR, social accountability and child rights, Participation of children in the activities of the LGU and SCP has been beneficial in obtaining relevant knowledge, cultivating their talent and skills as well as developing their self-confidence
