The Save the Children Saving Women and Premature Babies (SWAP) project in Bangladesh introduced the innovative Vayu bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP) device to treat newborns with respiratory distress in health facilities. This story shares provider perspectives on its use in Bangladesh.
The Vayu bCPAP system ensures non-invasive ventilation to supply continuous positive airway pressure to spontaneously breathing neonates, just like many other bubble CPAP systems. However, the Vayu bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP) device can supply blended oxygen at varying concentrations without the usage of electricity. It is also connected to tubing from an oxygen tank, so it does not require a compressed air tank.
