Save the Children Mozambique
Mozambique is highly vulnerable to climate change, with recurrent droughts, floods, and cyclones affecting livelihoods, food security, and access to basic services. The LINK project (2024–2029), implemented by Save the Children in partnership with the Government of Mozambique and funded by the Green Climate Fund, aims to strengthen climate resilience by integrating climate adaptation with social protection systems across nine districts in Gaza, Manica, and Tete provinces. This baseline assessment used a mixed-methods approach combining household surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews to establish benchmark indicators and assess the socio-economic and climate vulnerability context of target communities. Findings show widespread exposure to climate hazards, limited access to safe water and sanitation, declining agricultural productivity, and high levels of food insecurity. Although awareness of climate change is relatively high, knowledge of its causes and adaptive responses remains limited. The results highlight significant gaps in climate resilience, livelihoods, and access to social protection services, providing an evidence base to guide the implementation and monitoring of the LINK project.
