Save the Children Mozambique
This baseline assessment examines climate resilience, socio‑economic wellbeing, and household vulnerability across nine drought‑prone districts in Mozambique targeted by the LINK project (2024–2029). Using mixed quantitative and qualitative methods, the study surveyed 896 households and 643 children to establish benchmarks for future evaluations. Findings show widespread exposure to climate hazards—especially drought—low climate‑change knowledge among adults, declining household income, and high levels of food insecurity (91%). Water scarcity, limited access to education, and health challenges were more severe in climate‑affected areas. Children demonstrated strong climate awareness and highlighted emotional stress and barriers to schooling. The study identifies significant gaps in livelihoods, WASH services, and social protection coverage. Recommendations emphasize strengthening climate‑resilient infrastructure, improving climate literacy, expanding inclusive livelihood opportunities, enhancing early warning systems, and ensuring equitable access to social protection and health services.
