The topic of the research is understanding experiences of motherhood and offering a culturally informed analysis of the ideologies and conceptions of good parenting in Somaliland. The study examines the relationship of Save the Children’s institutional accounts of positive, ʽgoodʼ parenting to local perceptions and experiences of parenthood in Somaliland where Parenting without Violence (PwV) positive-parenting sessions are implemented. The ethnographic fieldwork was executed within context of Save the Children’s project “Children Protected in Families and Communities in Somaliland”, supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
