These slides were presented in a webinar on 31 July 2023.

Webinar description : In many settings, first-time mothers ages 15-24 are vulnerable to poor maternal outcomes, including rapid repeat pregnancies, and are less likely to use RMNCH-FP services than older and multigravida mothers. Dedicated interventions have shown promise to improve use of health services during the postnatal period, including postpartum family planning (PPFP) and postnatal care (PNC) among first-time mothers. Yet many complex interventions have proven challenging to scale beyond small pilot areas or to institutionalize within existing systems. What could more scalable approaches to improve PPFP and PNC for first-time mothers look like, and could these lighter-touch interventions prove effective?

In this webinar, we explored insights into scalable facility- and community-level approaches to improve uptake of PPFP among first-time mothers from the Connect Project in Bangladesh and Tanzania, and PNC in Bangladesh. We dug into key trade-offs to improve scalability, the vision for institutionalization and sustainability in two different country contexts, and highlighted learnings and recommendations from initial testing.
