This compendium is the result of a 2016 symposium hosted by UNICEF titled The Adolescent Brain: A second window of opportunity. The event brought together leading experts in adolescent neuroscience to discuss developments in the field and how new findings can be used to help adolescents, especially those who are members of at-risk communities. This compendium compiles some of the ideas discussed at the conference. It provides a broad overview of the physical, sexual, and brain development that take place during adolescent—and some of the obstacles that come in the way of healthy development. The articles published within this compendium also point toward a window of opportunity to develop interventions that build on previous early childhood interventions, taking the benefits of these programmes, and also offsetting early childhood deficiencies.
