The Right to Education has been included as part of the Sustainable Development Goals, yet 264 million children and adolescents are presently not in school. To ensure that we are able to fulfill this Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) by 2030, accountability is especially crucial.
Therefore, this Global Education Monitoring report by UNESCO has been undertaken with a special focus on Accountability. It shows that not enough is being done to keep partners accountable in moving towards SDG 4, and in some cases, accountability methods may even be having the opposite effect. The report calls for greater mechanisms to enforce the right to education and keep Governments accountable to this commitment.
