50th Session – Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The Democratic Republic of Congo requires a 3-digit toll-free national telephone helpline for children, available at the national level. The Government should promote awareness of how children can access the helpline to call when they are at risk and in need of assistance. If the DRC government endorses the introduction of the helpline, given the current technology it would have the potential to reach more than 340,000 children per year. The helpline is a critical tool for children to seek assistance and lodge complaints and for the competent authorities to monitor the situation of children and protect them from violations of their rights.
