Save the Children’s Ready to Learn (RTL) is a scalable, evidence-based school-readiness approach that fosters children’s curiosity, collaboration and kindness through playful learning experiences in ECCD centres and at home. Formerly known as Emergent Literacy and Maths, RtL’s newest update now goes beyond ELM to focus on holistic school readiness skills across multiple domains (cognitive, language, social-emotional, gross and fine motor and executive function). RTL’s modular approach emphasizes flexible, adapted design, appropriate for different contexts and priorities in development and humanitarian settings. Ready to Learn has been used in over 54 countries to date, both in humanitarian and development settings.
This toolkit compiles all the relevant resources and materials for the Ready to Learn Common Approach, offering a one stop shop for tools and guides. The materials are divided by the components of Ready to Learn, including: Overview Materials, Ready to Learn @ Centre, Ready to Learn @ Home, IDELA & MEAL Tools, and Elective Modules. Links to the Ready to Learn Learning Programme are also available.

Chapter 1
Ready to Learn Overview
This section provides materials that provides insight into the overall Ready to Learn approach. Within this section, you can find the Ready to Learn 2 Pager, the Ready to Learn Operations Guide, the Ready to Learn Infographic, as well as a briefer on the changes in the latest updates in RTL 3.0. Evidence from across Ready to Learn programmes is also compiled into the Windows Into Early Learning Report.

IDELA and MEAL
The International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) Toolkit is a suite of three tools that measure children’s early learning and development status and the quality of their learning environments. The RTL MEAL toolkit measures other parts of a RTL program to ensure quality and effectiveness, even at scale.

Chapter 5
Gender Equality and Inclusion
RTL actively promotes equity and inclusion by both mainstreaming inclusive practices in centre, home and measurement, as well as offering options for targeted support. Here you can find the RTL Elective Modules, which can be added into a RTL programme to support a variety of contexts, including: multilingual contexts, gender equality, disability inclusion, climate change, emergencies, and scale.
