Welcome to the Literacy Boost (LB) 3.0 Toolkit page!

As of December 2024, the LB TPD 3.0 resources are now available and have been updated to better align with the Enabling Teachers’ Common Approach format. LB TPD 3.0 includes other key updates including additional content on lesson planning for literacy, assessment informed instruction for literacy, guidance for creating an LB TPD MEAL Plan, guidance on supporting coaches in LB programs, and more!

Documents in the LB TPD 3.0 Toolkit:

  1. LB 3.0 Implementation Guide – Landing page for LB TPD 3.0, provides guidance on how to adapt LB TPD materials.
      1. Provides essential guidance of HOW to adapt the LB TPD resources
      2. Includes tips for integrating in cross-cutting themes (inclusion – gender, disability, overage learners; SHN; Climate; SLM; etc.)
      3. Includes a checklist of key adaptation activities in the annex (use this if you don’t have time to read the whole thing)
  2. LB 3.0 Teacher Competencies Guidance:
    1. LB 3.0 Teacher Competencies Guide – Includes guidance on how to select, adapt, and contextualize the competencies for the LB 3.0 TPD intervention.
    2. LB 3.0 Teacher Competencies List (excel spreadsheet) – Includes a list of teacher competencies covered in the LB TPD activities as well as suggested competencies that are covered in other training materials
      1. 11 competencies that are directly addressed in the LB Modules
      2. Other suggested competencies that serve as pre-requisites or supplementary to the LB Competencies (+ links to modules that could be added for this purpose)
  3. LB 3.0 TPD Modules – Includes expert-led session facilitator guides, training handouts, coaching classroom observation tool, self-directed learning activities, and (semi-structured) peer learning circles guidance for each module. All are based on activities in the LB Compendium of Activities.
    1. Module 0: SNAP modules are considered a pre-requisite to LB modules (Check the Inclusive Education page on OneNet for the latest version of the SNAP TPD guidance)
    2. Module 1: Introduction to Literacy and Language
    3. Module 2: Planning for Literacy Instruction
    4. Module 3: Assessment Informed Instruction for Literacy
    5. Module 4: Phonological Awareness and Phonics
    6. Module 5: Vocabulary and Fluency
    7. Module 6: Reading Comprehension
  4. LB 3.0 Activity Compendium – Includes a collection of literacy-related instructional activities, formative assessment techniques, and space to add classroom routines that teachers can use to integrate research-based literacy methodology within their classrooms.
  5. LB 3.0 Coach Training – Provides coaches with an overview of the coach’s responsibilities, tools, and practices.
    1. Based on two key competencies for coaches
    2. 1-2 days (two 4 hr sessions) expert led training for coaches + self-directed learning activities + PLCs for coaches
    3. Assumes they will attend the ToT on LB, so does not focus on literacy content (focuses on how to be a good coach)
  6. LB 3.0 TPD M&E Toolkit – Includes an indicator list, tool list, research questions, and sample tools.
    1. Intended to be embedded in a future LB MEAL Pack
    2. Includes a list of tools that teams could adapt for contextual analysis, monitoring and evaluation of LB TPD programs
    3. Proposes to use an adapted version of the WB TEACH classroom observation tool, with added literacy component, but these would need to be psychometrically/etc. tested with Research colleagues to ensure their validity/reliability
    4. Also includes links to global indicators related to LB/TPD and suggests initial learning agenda questions for future research
    5. Teams should choose the FEWEST number of monitoring/evaluation tools needed to improve programming

Coming in early 2025:

  • LB/NB Structured Pedagogy Guidance (optional for contexts who are considering developing new or supporting existing structured pedagogy programs for literacy and/or numeracy)
  • LB/NB Scaling through Systems Guidance – to help our teams better plan for sustainability and scalability of literacy and numeracy outcomes via working with education and other local systems

Coming later in 2025 or later:

  • LB 3.0 (and NB) Community Action Guidance, possibly including:
    • LB/NB Community Action Overview Guide – explaining how to better embed localization and inclusion in LB/NB Community and home-school connection programming, with a menu of activities to choose from; audience is program designers
    • LB/NB Child-centered Activities Guide – includes the full set of resources to implement the different child-centered activities mentioned in the overview guide (ToTs for volunteers, math/reading curriculum documents, etc.); audience is program implementers
    • LB/NB Caregiver Engagement Activities Guide- includes the full set of resources to implement the different caregiver engagement activities mentioned in the overview guide (ToTs for volunteers, caregiver workshop curriculum/flipbooks, MBoost messages, etc.); audience is program implementers
  • LB 3.0 MEAL Guidance – should bring together TPD and Community Action MEAL guidance
  • LB 3.0 Multilingual Guidance – including tips on enhancing advocacy, TPD, and Community Action activities in multilingual contexts; organized according to different types of multilingual contexts so that readers can easily jump to the sections that are most applicable to them
