Webinar: What have we learned from the Child Protection response to Ebola?

On Monday, January 23, 2017, the Alliance’s Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPMS) Working Group organized and led the webinar “What have we learned from the child protection response in epidemics during the Ebola crisis?”

Andrew Brooks, UNICEF Regional Child Protection Adviser for West and Central Africa, presented the finding of a recently released report “The Child Protection Response to the Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic (2014 – 2015): A Lessons Learned Assessment.” The report looks across the three affected countries – Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea – to analyse the degree to which the response was successful in addressing the scale and unique nature of the protection of children and provides key lessons learned and recommendations for the future.

Alama Toure, Child Protection Officer Terre des hommes Guinea, presented lessons learned from programming on community and family based supports for children in Guinea.

Maggie Zraly, ChildFund Child Protection Advisor, discussed ChildFund’s programming experience and lessons learned across three countries, focusing on the integration of child protection and health, center-based interim care of children, and collaboration with existing social services for tracing, alternative care, and referral.
