Save the Children UK
Nearly two million children still die from vaccine-preventable diseases each year. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) leads worldwide efforts to improve access to vaccines. It aims to immunise 243 million children by 2015 and save four million more children’s lives. But GAVI is currently facing a £2.3 billion funding gap. On 13 June 2011, the UK is hosting a conference where governments and donors will come together to make financial commitments to fund GAVI’s life-saving work. Save the Children is calling on all donors to seize this opportunity to close the funding gap and provide vaccines for all children. The report also highlights the findings of a series of case studies from Angola, Sierra Leone, Kenya, India, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Liberia.
