Save the Children Sweden

Save the Children Sweden’s nine demands for the new school law are directed to the Swedish government and parliament. If they are accepted, schools will be improved across the country. This updated publications presents each of the nine demands and an update as to whether or not they have been realized beyond words on paper.

The nine demands are:

  1. No fees in school
  2. Every school must have at least one forum for student participation
  3. Empower the Department of Education’s ability to enforce the school law
  4. Every student shall be guaranteed at least two hours of teacher-led study support during school hours
  5. Children without documentation shall have the right to an education
  6. The right to choose a school – even for children with disabilities
  7. Children have a right to a counsellor or psychologist
  8. Grades can be reconsidered
  9. Children have a right to secure childcare – even when the parents work unusual or long hours
