Technical Note: Protection of Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Children and alternative care

Evidence from previous infectious disease outbreaks show that existing child protection risks are exacerbated and that new ones emerge as a consequence of the epidemic itself but also the impacts of prevention and control measures. Some children are at risk during these circumstances, especially those without parental or family care, those at risk from separation from family, those in alternative care, and those who recently have left alternative care.

The aim of this technical note is to support child protection actors and government officials in their immediate response to child protection risks faced by children who are at risk of separation or in alternative care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
