The Supplementary report submitted by the Batwa Development in Uganda (UOBDU) and Forest Peoples Programme (FPP), provides the Committee on the Rights of the Child with information about the situation and rights of indigenous Batwa children in Uganda and comments on Uganda’s Periodic State report. The report concludes that the rights of Batwa children are not adequately recognised and respected in Ugandan law and practice, and that Uganda’s policies and laws on children do not pay any particular attention to Batwa children. The Batwa’s landlessness, caused by being forcibly expelled from their traditional lands is an important factor that prevents Batwa children from enjoying most of the rights enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
