State of the World’s Mothers 2004: Children having children

This year’s report focuses on the tens of millions of girls around the world who marry and have babies while they are still children themselves. It identifies countries where young mothers and their children are most at risk and recommends ways to help girls delay marriage and motherhood until they are emotionally and physically ready to give birth and raise children. It also suggests programmatic and policy solutions to help child mothers and their babies survive and thrive. The report includes an Early Motherhood Risk Ranking and the fifth annual Mothers’ Index.
