Save the Children India

Save the Children India, together with partner organisations, have been working for a number of years on the issue of child domestic work (CDW). The goal is to change conservative attitudes and traditions which condone or give rise to exploitation in domestic work. Key objectives of the project are: 1) to design “models of best practice” and implement these in targeted areas to reduce/abolish CDW; 2) to work towards making CDW culturally and socially unacceptable through responsive community actions; 3) to provide formal/vocational education to children repatriated from domestic work; out-of-school children, and children engaged in domestic work. This report provides a compilation of Save the Children India’s initiative to fight against Child Labour in West Bengal, and shares case studies of children employed in domestic work who were routinely subjected to many different forms of abuse.
