Save the Children

Children and work is a priority focus area for Save the Children’s child protection work. The aim of Save the Children is to eliminate harmful work and economic exploitation for all children. The strategic goal for this priority area is that by 2015, 3.5 million children will benefit from services that will enable them to fulfil their rights. The focus will be on children involved or at risk of entering in harmful work – specifically in both the domestic and in the agriculture sectors – and the role of the private sector as an important actor in the elimination of harmful work.  Harmful work takes root in many complex realities, including social inequities, lack of protective systems, and social attitudes regarding child welfare. To address this issue, a holistic child-centered and informed approach is needed with a strong component of child participation.
