Wars deprive millions of children of an education, yet education in emergencies has not traditionally occupied a prominent place in humanitarian thinking.This discussion paper argues for a reappraisal of the position of education in emergency programming and underscores the positive side of education during and after conflicts, connecting education to child protection. It divides the “potential protective elements of education in emergencies” into three main categories: physical, psychosocial, and cognitive protection.
